June 24, 1948 - April 15, 2021
Passed away peacefully on April 15th, 2021. David will be greatly missed by his caring wife Barbara (née Blackford), his three daughters, Shannon (Andy), Briar (Nikil), and Heather (Geoff), and his seven grandchildren (Gwendolyn, Evelyn; Quinlan, Beckett, Dexter; Maisie, Lila).
David had more than his fair share of adventures, though it was difficult to get stories out of him due to his humble, quiet nature. He was raised in Toronto, but his heart was always out of the city – at Lake Muldrew, “The Stream”, or on the ski hill, particularly Mont Tremblant. He graduated high school at 16 and played semi-pro hockey in Switzerland, then toured Europe in a beat-up old van. He spent years between Paris and London, at various bank jobs and pubs, and ran with the bulls in Spain. He paddled across Ontario by canoe, and left a promising career in finance to teach kids with special needs.
David most enjoyed being surrounded by his wife and three daughters, and even begrudgingly loved it when they regularly brought home all manner of pet animals! He will be remembered often for his patience, pragmatism, athleticism, and dry wit. His legacy will continue through his family, for whom he felt boundless pride and deep love.
In lieu of flowers, please enjoy some time in nature or donate to the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
