SHAVER, JACK EDWARD – Dr. Jack Edward Shaver passed away peacefully at the age of 90, on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.

Jack was born on July 8, 1931, in Brantford, Ontario to Howard and Evangeline Shaver. He attended the University of Western Ontario and graduated in 1955 with a joint B.A & Doctor of Medicine degree. He interned at Hamilton General Hospital where he met his future wife, Jeanette DeGrow. They were married on August 31,1957.

He began his medical practice in Scotland, Ontario, then moved the practice to Brantford, where he was one of the founding members of the Medical Arts Group and served as Treasurer for 25 years.  He later joined with doctors Picket, Cherniak, Manning and Jim and Laurie Shaver to found the St. Paul Family Medical Centre.  He retired from the practice of medicine in 1998.

Jack was a lifelong member of the United Church of Canada.  He considered the Scotland United Church to be his spiritual home and was honored to serve as an elder and a trustee there.

Jack was also a long-standing member of the Masonic Order. He was a Scottish Rite 33rd Degree Mason and a member of Scotland Lodge 193. He was District Deputy Grand Master for Brant and during his tenure he brought Donald O’Connor and the Geritol Follies to Brantford, raising $40,000 for the Help to Hear Program.

He and Jeanette belonged to the Historical Automobile Society of Canada (Long Point Region). He enjoyed driving his old cars and his Rumely Oil Pull Tractor. He also loved fishing, and woodworking.

He is survived by Jeanette Shaver; Jim Shaver (Laurie), Daniel and Katie Shaver, Stephen Shaver, Jillian and David Veitch; Jane Trklja (Andrew), Nathaniel, Jonathan & Kristen, and Katrina, Janet Kalman (Csaba), Alexandra, Michael and David. He is also survived by 2 Great Grandchildren; Jack and Natalie Shaver.

He is predeceased by his parents Howard and Evangeline Shaver, and his sister Vera Williams.

A short graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 23rd at 10:00 a.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery (169 Charing Cross St., Brantford, Ontario).  Anyone who would like to attend this outdoor event is welcome.
