May 4, 1932 - May 3, 2020
It is with sadness that the family announce the passing of Esmond Bassarath, who passed away peacefully at the Royal Victoria Hospital, on Sunday May 3, 2020, in his 87th year. Esmond was husband to Rosslyn, father to the late Lindley, and Lynelle, grandfather to Austin, and loving family member to the Bassarath, Doman and related families overseas.
Esmond was a retired teacher who taught English throughout his 40+ years as a Secondary School teacher. He began his teaching career at Naparima College in Trinidad & Tobago and continued when he emigrated to Canada in the early 1960s. He spent most of his teaching years at Kirkland Lake Collegiate & Vocational Institute (K.L.C.V.I). Although a strict teacher, many of his students whom he would run into often, later in life, would come up to him saying how much they valued his teachings and learned invaluable lessons from his classes. Esmond was an avid reader and could quote passages from poetry and prose even into his most recent years. He was also a great lover of food and was often known to say, “Let me have some more of that” with any culinary experience. He will be sadly missed by friends and family all over the globe.
A private graveside service was held on May 7, 2020 at St. John’s Norway Cemetary in Toronto, Ontario. Due to COVID restrictions, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Messages of condolence and remembrances of Esmond may be forwarded to the family through adamsfuneralhome.ca.
