Imelda Theresa Magee Waud passed away peacefully at Grove Park Home, Barrie on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at the age of 98. She is reunited with her beloved husband Edward who died in 1970 and her cherished eldest daughter Debbie who died in 2014 as well as all her siblings.

Imelda was born March 27, 1919 in Holyhead, Wales. She attended Loretta Abbey Catholic Boarding School with all of her five sisters.  She joined the Womens Royal Navy Service (WRNS) in the UK during WW II and served as a warship tracker and delivered mail to the British and Canadian soldiers.  It was during this time she met her husband Edward who was a Lieutenant in the Royal Montreal Regiment.  They were married in London, England in 1943.

Imelda voyaged to Canada with her first born son David on the Mauretania in 1946. She was soon joined by her husband and they settled in Toronto.

Imelda will be sadly missed by her surviving children David Waud (Christine), Michael Waud (Ghyliane), Peter Waud (Jeanette) and Ellen Marks (Kevin) and her grandchildren Jillian Cotton (Lee) and Adam Waud, Jeremy and Grant Waud (Kathy), Sean and Brian Marks and her great grandchildren Dustin, Bryce and Gavin Cotton and Avery, Emma and Davis Waud.

Imelda was a strong, resilient, independent woman who was polite, agreeable, appreciative and grateful.  She always greeted people with a beautiful smile and a wave hello.  She was happiest surrounded by her family.  She loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humour.  She was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed the company of dogs and spending time at her beloved cottage on Wymbolwood Beach.

Imelda’s family would like to thank Grove Park Home for the care their mother received during her 5 years there.  She was always treated with kindness, dignity and respect.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Grove Park Home, 234 Cook St., Barrie ( would be greatly appreciated.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, 65 Amelia Street, Barrie on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 10 o’clock a.m. Private family interment at a later date at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Thornhill.
