Joan Helen Garner
September 13, 1934 – March 30, 2019
Passed away peacefully with family at her side on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the IOOF Seniors Home, Barrie.
Joan Garner at the age of 84, loving wife of Jack Garner. Cherished mother of Jeff (Marilyn) Garner and the late John W. Garner. Proud grandmother of Ryan Garner, Daniel Garner, Katy (Shane) Viccary and Brett Garner (Amy) and great grandmother of Ayden and Wyatt. Joan will be fondly remembered by her dear sister Elda Burnes (and her family), daughter in-law Beth Garner, Trish Tribble, and also her wonderful circle of friends.
A huge thank you is extended to the special ladies who provided exceptional care and companionship over the years, and also to the staff of the IOOF Seniors Home for the wonderful care and compassion given to our mother.
Joan was born in Timmins and came to Barrie to finish high school at Barrie Central. Joan had the kindest soul and always saw the good in people. After many years working at Ontario Hydro, she retired early in order to give someone younger the opportunity to experience what she felt was the best job in the world.
Joan filled her retirement days with friends, knitting (many little ones received her amazing blankets and outfits), walking, volunteering at RVH and regular outings to the gym. An inspiration to many at both Allandale and East Bayfield recreation centres, Joan kept pace with many half her age in fitness classes and yoga, well into her early eighties.
Easily recognizable by her love of bling and all things purple or jewel-toned, we invite you to join us at a Celebration of Life and ask that you wear your brightest colours in her honour and to remember her beautiful grace and spirit.
To be held at Adams Funeral Home, 445 St. Vincent St., Barrie (just north of Cundles Rd.) on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 11:00 am followed by a reception.
Memorial donations to Canadian Mental Health Association Barrie, Alzheimer’s Society of Simcoe County or the IOOF Seniors Home Barrie would be appreciated by the family.
