John Albert Oakes
March 8, 1939 - February 19, 2021
Oakes, John Albert – Passed away at home on Friday, February 19th, 2021 at the age of 81. John, beloved husband of Joyce (nee Spooner) for 57 years. Loving father of Lynlee (Bryan) Brewer and Steven (Denise) Oakes. Devoted Grandpa of Mikaela, Connor, Madison, Alannah, Bailey, Brooklyn, Ashlinn, Darby, Logan and Lochlyn. Dear brother of Robert (Judy) Oakes.
John grew up in Toronto and attended Runnymede Collegiate. He loved to play the saxophone, especially with his mother Eva accompanying him on the piano while his father Albert listened and enjoyed.
With his brother Bob and lifelong friend and cousin Johnny Swarbrick he was always ready to enjoy life to the fullest, often spending time up at their summer place on Orr Lake.
He met the love of his life Joyce when they were both attending Ryerson in the early 1960’s, him for Chemistry and her for Fashion Design. They were married on December 12th, 1963 and for the next 57 years they were inseparable as business partners and life partners.
A devoted husband, wise father, and loving grandfather, he will be tremendously missed by all who knew him.
A private family funeral service will be held at Adams Funeral Home, Barrie on Wednesday, February 24th. Interment at the Barrie Union Cemetery. Messages of condolence may be forwarded to the family through adamsfuneralhome.ca
