Woods, Susan Mary

Born January 31, 1941, died peacefully at home on October 21, 2021 surrounded by her family. Daughter of the late David and Joyce (Lownsbrough) Woods. Beloved wife of Fred W. Beck, devoted and loving mother of Peggy Milne (Mitch Williams), Catherine Milne (Scott Baker) and James Kilburn (Eleni Gicas). Loving Granny to Hilary (Joe), Jackson, Iain, Harry, and “Apple Sue” to Gabriella (Jesse). Susan cared deeply for Fred’s children, William, Wendy, and Gregor. Susan is survived by her brother David Woods (Penny) of Ottawa and sister Deborah Woods (late John Connolly) of Barrie. She loved and admired her many cousins, nieces and nephews and all their children who are part of her large extended family.

Susan worked in several capacities for The United Church of Canada and as a development consultant for non-profit housing. After retiring, she bought a community newspaper, writing editorials and publishing the works of others. She also researched and wrote a history of her Woods/Mason family.

Susan cherished her volunteer involvement with the Toronto YWCA, the Fred Victor Mission, St. Christopher House (now West Neighbourhood House), St. Thomas Church in Shanty Bay and the many friends she met along the way. She was a ‘Founding

Mother’ of the Canadian Women’s Foundation, a title that pleased her greatly.

The family thanks Dr. Brian Morris, Dr. Kelly Emerson and St. Elizabeth nurse Lena for their comfort and support. Susan’s personal care was entrusted to Ewa Frydel who has become a much-loved member of our family. To all of her guardian angels, Susan will forever be grateful.

Visitation will take place from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm on Saturday October 30, at Adams Funeral Home, 445 St. Vincent St., Barrie. A Celebration of Life will take place in the Spring of 2022. In remembrance, hug your children, plant a tree, welcome a newcomer. Messages of condolence may be forwarded to the family through adamsfuneralhome.ca
